The Mpanga washing station is situated in the Kayanza village so is well placed to receive cherry from all the small producers in the surrounding area. Extra funding is spent on training, with bonuses being paid on top to reward quality, reflect price sold for and reinforce the training, in order to improve the coffee in this area. Being a bourbon, this coffee shares many characteristics you’d expect to find in the better known Rwandan coffees. The elegance, subtle complexity and balance all being common in the Bourbon varietal. Coffees in Burundi are traditionally washed but in recent years we’ve tasted some spectacular lots coming from this great origin, so hopefully this delicious coffee is only a glimpse of what’s to come in the future.
